In order to receive positive results from the National Student Financial Aid Scheme, applicants must follow all of the requirements (NSFAS). The prerequisites for applicants are listed below.
Applicants must meet this requirement.
To avoid being rejected by the nsfas board, candidates should ensure that they meet the following minimum entrance criteria below before applying:
• South African citizen
• SASSA grant recipient
• Total household income of R350 000 or less per year
• Applying to study at a TVET College or a public university
• Already enrolled as a university student with a total household income of less than R122 000 per year
• Passed grades 9 and 10 to be eligible for TVET College funding
• Passed Matric to be eligible for University funding
• Enrolling in a public university for an undergraduate degree or a public TVET college for a National Certificate Vocational/Report 191 program for the first time.
If you match the following criteria, you should not apply:
• Completed a previous tertiary qualification
• Already applied for and received financing as a foreign student (NOT a South African citizen)
• Total household income is over R350 000 per annum

COVERAGE VALUE
The DHET Bursary will give covary for the following study-related expenses:
- Registration fee
- Tuition fee
- Subsidized book allowances
- Prescribed learning materials (up to a certain amount, as set by NSFAS)
- Subsidized accommodation (up to a certain amount, as set by NSFAS)
- Subsidized meal allowances
