UPOnline Application Guidelines 2023-2024

The online application system is envisioned for use by new prospective students submitting an application to UP for the first time. It is not planned for students presently registered at the University of Pretoria.

To use the Online Application System applicants will need the following:

  • Internet access
  • An email address which you can contact regularly, because as soon as you submit your online application, a student number (EMPLID) will be directed to this email address as approval of receipt.

UPOnline application information

  • UPOnline gives a unique programme structure where you can apply at any time and enroll six times a year.
  • Request information. Once you have made a first enquiry and it has been recognized by the UPOnline Call Centre that you are a qualified student, you will get communication from the University. This communication will offer you with a link that will give you direct access to the University of Pretoria’s online study application system. This link contains a unique token for your online study application that can only be used once. Copy and paste this link into your browser’s address line. The URL will open the landing page of the University of Pretoria’s online study application system.
  • You must complete only one online application for the programme that you wish to apply for.
  • Note that there are four stages to complete and these steps must be done in sequential order so that the application is correctly started.
  • Once your online application has been handled, you will receive a student number (EMPLID).
  • Getting a student number (EMPLID) does NOT imply that you have been accepted by the University of Pretoria. Admission is a separate process your application undergoes after being assessed by the relevant faculty.
  • It is in your best interest to finish your own online application. It is of the utmost importance that you provide your personal email and postal addresses to enable the University of Pretoria to communicate with you directly.

  • Paid the application fee.
  • Confirmed the application and clicked ‘APPLY’.
  • If you have not clicked ‘APPLY’, your form has not been sent.

Once your application has been sent successfully:

  • You will no longer be able to edit your application.
  • You will get your allocated student number (EMPLID) via email.
  • You will get important procedures on how to check your progress and application results on the student portal.
